About SDI

Social Development Initiative (SDI-Myanmar) is a national NGO registered at Ministry of Home Affair with registration no. 2043. SDI-Myanmar is not for profit, non-governmental, non-religious, non-racial, neutral and independent organization. It was founded on 15th January 2010 with ten executive committee members who are interested in working with communities for the development of the country. Its members have been working with either communities or international development organizations several years and have extensive experience, skills in supporting the socio-economic development of Myanmar. The network of SDI covers all the areas of Myanmar.

SDI has several partners working not only in various field of humanitarian aid but also that of development. Capacity building is an area where SDI has been active. SDI provides support to Community Based Organizations (CBO), Civil Society organization (CSO) at local level to work more effectively in their humanitarian and development works. In addition, SDI works closely with local government agencies to contribute to the economic, social and education development of Myanmar which are essential for poverty reduction in Myanmar.

  • To increase the capacity of individuals to participate in the economic development of Myanmar
  • To establish the community-based development group to sustain and protect their livelihood system by equipping with skills and knowledge
  • To engage with developmental experts from domestic and international as well as national and international organizations to support national development of Myanmar
  • To work for sustainable livelihoods opportunities for communities participate in development of Myanmar
